Robot guards your house

Gadget of the weak
Wed Aug 24 2005, 14:48
THE GADGET mad Japanese are splashing out on a $2,600 robotic guard 'ball' to watch their houses when they go on holiday.

Roborior is a moving eyeball on wheels that glows purple, blue and orange as it patrols your house armed with infrared sensors. If a person breaks into your house, the Roborior will call you and send you pictures of the burglars on your cell phone. One has to question the wisdom of this brilliant idea.

Surely it would be better and cheaper to have a burglar alarm that calls a security company? You can't run the robot with a conventional burlgar alarm because the alarm will detect the robot as an intruder. What are you going to do with a picture of a crim nicking your stereo when you are sunning yourself on a beach in Crete?

Besides, all the burglar has to do is creep up behind the thing and throw a towel over its head, just like Doctor Who does with the Daleks.
