Apple fanboys to make Heinrich rich

Iphone rounduppery £600 app for the Iphone
Wednesday, 6 August 2008, 14:21

FOLLOWERS OF the Duke of Cupertino could help to make one Iphone developer, Armin Heinrich, filthy rich. They can purchase his £600 ($1,000) application – I am rich – from the Apple Itunes store.

All the app does is show a pic of a fake red jewel and produce a 'secret' mantra which "may help [the owner] to stay, healthy, wealthy and successful". Not wise, though.

This is probably just a gimmick to attract attention to his other Iphone apps which - presumably German-based Mr Heinrich hints are a lot cheaper.

It makes the INQ wonder what kind of vetting procedure Apple has for its App Store.

Meanwhile there seems to be some sort of battle commencing for which country can offer the Iphone on the cheapest tariff.

Over in Japan, network operator, Softbank (which inherited Vodafone's network) has dropped the minimum fee to 2990 Yen which is just under $28. That compares to around $59 for the minimum monthly tariff offered over here in Blighty by O2.

It's difficult to tell if you're comparing like for like, however, since to get the low Softbank fee you appear to have to consume under 2MB of data per month.

One INQ reader has pointed out that Telia in Sweden has a tariff that equates to around $33, for example, but didn't say how much data traffic was allowed.

But wait. On August 22nd, the Iphone 3G will go on sale in India even though there are no 3G networks. Far more significantly, there are going to be not one but two operators able to flog the Ithingey in India.

Given that Indian users will have to put up with GPRS/EDGE for the moment and they can choose to go with either Vodafone or Bharti Airtel, the INQ would be prepared to wager Indian Iphone users will probably have to pay the lowest monthly tariff.

For Fanboys who want to know just how many countries have the Ithingey on sale, here's the right Apple web page.

One last thing. Macsimumnews is reporting that there is a bug with installing the latest version of the Ithingey software (2.01). Apparently it creates havoc if you choose to do so while the device is in Airplane mode. Ooh, er. µ

Call rates in India

Are the cheapest in the whole world... Local calls at .75 Rupees/min ($0.018), international call rates at 6 Rs per min ($0.15).... I have vodafone and I can make calls to other vodafone numbers for just 10 Paise ($0.0025) (Its right... try 0.1 INR to USD in google)

And the networks here are very good... (some say even better than the US, because the Telcos can invest better and get gr8 returns because of the sheer numbers of customers)

3G is to be introduced from 15th August (our Independance day) and will be fully functional in 30 days.....

Now if only we had good politicians here... (oh wait, isn't the word politician synonymous with "BAD, EVIL" all over the world???)
