Intel is only 24 hours from Tulsa

CHIP FIRM Intel has told its partners that it will now introduce its "Tulsa" enterprise MP processor in Q3, rather than the fourth quarter, as originally slated.

Tulsa will be numbered the 71xx series, and will be dual core chip but supporting 16MB of level three cache at bus speeds of 667MHz and 800MHz.

It will be superseded in the enterprise MP space in Q3 next year by "Caneland", quad core architecture supporting FB-DIMMs, and VT.

The expected date is the end of August for the 7140M and N - the difference being that one clocks at 3.4GHz with an 800MHz bus and 16MB cache, while the "N" clocks at 3.33GHz with a 667MHz bus. The prices for the different varieties will be the same, at over $3,100. Gallatin is going away.

Other announcements for the future include UP Xeon 3000s as part of the so-called "Garlow" platform, and the addition of Core 2 Duo branding for Mr "Wyloway". Mr "Wyloway" will support Kentsfield quad core chips ut for entry servers.

In September, Intel will introduce the UP Xeon 3070 (2.67GHz/1066, 4MB), the 3060 (2.4GHz/1066, 4MB), the 3050 (2.13GHz/1066, 2MB) and the 3040 (1.86GHz/1066, 2MB) microprocessors at prices of $532, $315, $225 and $188 respectively. µ
