Nehalem will ship on time

All aboard
Thursday, 22 May 2008, 10:53

NEHALEM will ship on schedule announced Intel CEO, Paul Otellini, on Wednesday.

Chipzilla’s next generation of 45nm processors have been scheduled for release in the second half of 2008, and it looks like the company is on track to deliver on its promise.

At an annual shareholder meeting Otellini said, "Nehalem ... is still scheduled to launch in the second half of the year", and added that the firm would up its output of processors made on the new 45 nm technology.

Otellini went on to say: "We are on track to cross over in (the third quarter) of this year, so more than half our processors will be made on 45 nanometers."

There you have it. Straight from the horse’s mouth. µ

2nd half usually means Q4. Q4 usually means December. ;-)

late 2nd half!?

their 2nd half ship time means it could be around late 2008... that's why they prefer to say it 2nd half rather than the last quarter, which sounds like on-time or earlier than expected rather than later than expected...

Quarter and Half for dummies

Yeah, should be more December 31st 23:59:59 than July 1st 0:00:01!

no

Not really. The past two plus years, Intel has not only met its schedule, but often beaten it. Interestingly, Apple often gets the parts before everyone else. we might even see Nehalem Mac Pro's introduced during the ADC in June, though that's an outside chance.

Yeah right

Like the 45nm mainstream quad cores which were due in January and are still hard to get even today, you can only easly purchase the Q9300, the Q9450 and Q9550 are still rare birds which were supposed to be available in Jan 2008

Intel to update desktop CPU lines in 3Q08

Seems like new round of advertising is to peak in ~3Q'8 for Intel. Get their attention with New Desktops & hit Em Hard with Nahalem.

If they meant 3rd 1/4...

melgross, They say 2nd half because it sounds better than "sometime this year, but definitely not 3rd quarter".

It's of course perfectly on time if it's delivered, as stated, anywhere between July1st and December 31st. However, if they were actually aiming to the 3rd quarter, they'd say "third quarter" and not 2nd half.

See the irony now? They said something, without saying anything at all. A 6 month window is not a release date, and it's pretty hard to miss. Has nothing to do with Intel previously being on the spot...there's no real spot to hit with Otti's statement.

DDR2 vs DDR3

I read that Nehalem will have integrated DDR3 memory controllers, so i hope we'll be seeing a memory war to get DDR3 prices down...
