Half-Life2 code booby trapped?

THE HALF-LIFE 2 saga takes another twist with the latest instalment scripted on a fan site over here.

The poster reports reports of 'attempts to use "social engineering" to spread their dangerous virus/trojan software inside the "hl2_beta.rar".

Like with all soap operas, this plot twist is accompanied by suggestions that this would be just the sort of rumour you might put out if you wanted people to avoid the code.

As for the poster, he's not going to be fiddling with the code because "I have a lot of respect for the programmers at VALVe because of what I am."
