The outfit, which is the fourth-largest maker of notebook computers has said that it will end the exclusive agreement it has had with Intel since 2001. The company said it will stick AMD chips in 20 per cent of laptop models sold in the US and Europe.
According to Bloomberg, the reason for the change is a reduction in procurement costs. Toshiba wants to have cheaper laptops in the shops by Christmas.
A shift to AMD chips could lead to a 10 per cent drop in the costs of parts, Bloomberg said.
