The NV18 and NV28 include support for AGP 8x and Digitmes claims "sources" tell it the NV18 and NV28 chips will be named the GeForce4 MX440 8x and GeForce4 Ti 4200 8x, respectively.
Volume production of the NV18 chips will begin in October, says the wire, with the NV28 chips hitting the production lines some time later.
The announcement, if confirmed, will spur on engineers rushing to fix some mobos sporting ATI's Radeon 9700 PRO. The rival graphics chip maker confirmed yesterday that there were some problems with its own AGP8X implementation on some motherboards, which it said were not due to any problems with its own boards.
An Nvidia spokeman told the INQUIRER he wouldn't be drawn on the speculation, refusing to either confirm or deny the story.
He did say that Nvidia's other eagerly awaited latecomer, the NForce 2 chipset will be feature in boards on sale in "late October", however.
"Press samples are being reviewed as we speak," he said. ยต
