Seagate starts shipping 15K Cheetah drives

Faster, more IOs, and the like
Tue Nov 23 2004, 15:31
SEAGATE SAID it has started shipping its Cheetah 15K.4 drives worldwide, through its distributor and dealer channel.

The drives some in 36GB, 73GB and 146GB capacities with suggested pricing of $329, $659 and $1,315.

Seagate claims that the 15K.4 can deliver 30 per cent IOs per second and have 20 per cent faster response times than 3.5-inch 10K RPM drives.

Seagate started shipping its 10K.7 drives last month. It said the drives are designed for a large number of enterprise applications.

While the drives are already shipping in Ultra 320 SCSI and Fibre Channel versions, Seagate said it is also likely to offer them with serial attached SCSI early in the first quarter of next year. ยต
