SOUTH KOREAN authorities have arrested a bloke suspected of sending out up to 18 million spam emails every day, from his Zombie network.

The state-run Korea Information Security Agency (KISA), says the man is thought to have been running a network of 16,000 zombies, converted to act as instruments of the dark forces with slivers of sneaky software.

The spam is thought to have been fired off in the direction of 133 countries worldwide.

According to insecurity experts at Sophos, South Korea is the third biggest relayer of spam, accounting for almost 10% of all junk mail seen by the company's network of 'spam traps'. But not any more.

SpokesSophos, Graham Cluley, reckons South Korean computers are often exploited in this way by spammers because of the country's impressive Internet infrastructure. "For the Koreans to catch their first zombie master is great news for everybody who uses the Internet," he proclaimed. µ
