BA STAFF WHO LEFT nasty but true comments about passengers on social notworking site Facebook are being investigated by their bosses.
The check-in staff based at Gatwick posted messages on their Facebook pages saying that travellers were 'smelly' and that operations at Heathrow's Terminal 5 were 'shambolic'.
A press officer was furious that the staff seem to have ignored all directives to shut up about Terminal 5, even if it was shambolic, and certainly not make comments about the great unwashed flying peasants it calls customers.
It looks like the PR department have ordered a witch hunt... er investigation, into the web page and pledged to deal with those responsible. We guess that means flinging them into the engines of a 777.
It is the second outcry over airline industry people posting embarrassing but probably true information on Facebook. Last week 13 Virgin Atlantic cabin crew were dismissed for calling punters 'chavs'.
The Facebook page said that the things that the BA staff hated were passengers who 'put a boarding pass in their mouth and then hand it back. Passengers that were smelly first thing in the morning. Those that run late, or breathe in your face and those who ask for a complimentary upgrade'.
"American customers with their stupid accents", annoyed one BA check-in person.
Other pages set up by BA workers mocked the airline's chief executive Willie Walsh and included a video in which a band sings about 'what a disaster' Terminal 5 is.
The site claims that Cabin Crew are bailing out faster than Dawn French from a Weight Watchers meeting because they simply don't get paid enough.
It also leaves the slightly scarying information that BA has four new 777s due to be delivered in January 2009. Whilst they have purchased slots to use them at Heathrow, they simply don't have the capacity or the room - despite T5 being open.
It adds that operations in T5 are shambolic. Luggage is lost, no BA flights ever leave on time, and virtually all flights are coached to remote stands.
It seems that rather than tackle the problems that the Facebook postings make, it is a lot easier to fire the staff for making them. µ

Have travelled around the world on far too many times to remember, I can vouch for the fact that Heathrow is the most incompetent organisation I have encountered on this planet. Closely followed by Charles De Gaule Airport. For the most arrogant, unfriendly place then Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv is the place. In fact the only friendly people in the whole city are the Arab taxi-drivers.

If you want to see efficient security and efficient airport operations, go to Ataturk Airport in Istanbul.
Don't shoot me I'm only the messenger?

Maybe they're being hunted down to give them incentive bonuses for hi-lighting problems...:)

The truth hurts!

Being in the service industry I can vouch for it, people ARE disgusting!

If I may suggest to the employees of BA... start up a nice site like www.bestbuysucks.com etc... what can management say then? Nothing, no way to prove who posted what!

Oh, by the way,

"Maybe they're being hunted down to give them incentive bonuses for hi-lighting problems...:)"

ROFL!

a short walk to the no queue security area, through to a simple cafe - shop with quick stroll onto the plane.

Like a bus station.

Why do they think we want huge places, with massive queues, inside a shopping mall, with prices 50% higher than our normal shops?

How can a drink of water cost £2 and BAA tell us they are not overcharging at airports?

Those middle-eastern terrorists have only gone and made the rich westerners even richer.
..That if you're gonna post stuff about work on the internet, use an alias. Why is it that people do not think businesses check up on these sites? Duh.

Also, Johannasburgh airport is better than Heathrow. Best airport in the country is Bristol.
Terminal is now working really well and BA flights from there are now among the most punctual and are losing very few bags compared to other airlines/terminals, the stats are all out there. Maybe the comments posted were from the opening period which was a disaster. Even if the comments were true you have to be pretty stupid to publicly slate your own company that pays your wages.
