i865PE supports dual core Pentium 4

Hardware Roundup Yet another miracle from Asrock

ENTHUSIAST'S WEBSITE Extremeoverclocking checks the all copper Thermalright XP-90C heatsink. It has multiple heathipes with a nickel plated copper base and soldered fins. It is so huge that it apparently cools the surrounding of the CPU also. But its weight, 690g might make some ponder over whether it might be prudent to install it and a fan over a mATX board for example. Still a good cooler but does going from 690g Copper to 360g Copper+Alu for a couple of degrees change is the way to go?

The Gigabyte GA8N-SLI Royal motherboard is on review at Neoseeker. This nForce 4 SLI Intel edition motherboard comes with all the improvemetns and features that you might expect from any high end motherboard in its vicinity including some Gigabyte Specifics like the Dual Power system, Xpress, CIA, MIB, SOS, MIB. Overclock friendly and excellent all rounder.

Hitechreviews checks the latest Hitachi Mammoth Hard disk drive, the 7K500 which as you can guess is a 500GB non formatted monster. It is also one of the first SATA II drive. Improvements are apparently noticeable. The reviewer says that additing this new hard drive gave him a newer system, especially with a 16MB cache memory.

Triple reviews from xbitlabs. The first one is that of the Aopen Openbook 1559-JL barebone mobile system. Yep, you can build your own now. Manufacturers - Aopen is the only one I know - give you the skeleton and you add in the CPU, memory, HDD and the Optical drive. From my point of view though, better buy a fully configured laptop. The second review is that of the MGE Ninja and Sidewinder cases. MGE is not a French Electrical manufacturer that some might know but rather stands for Manufacturer of Great Electronics. Both models are ATX mid tower. Xbitlabs spares no pain to gets its review right. The reviewer even brings in a Sanyo Incubator. The MGE cases have impressed Xbitlabs with their design and performance. Impressive stuff. The last review is about a pair of external USB HDD enclosures, the ST Labs S-101 and the ViPower VP 9258V. They get tested in FC Test and in Winbench 99. They're almost like siamese twins but the ViPower is cheaper apparently.

The MSI RX800XL comes into life at PCStats. The RX800XL-VT2D256E is a PCI express ATI X800XL with 256MB of 3.2ns Samsung memory. You get the usual combination of goodies - Cyberlink SW, S Video to S Video cable, breakout box and two DVI ports. The X800XL is the direct competitor to the 680GT, not a good overclocker but even then, it is a very good performer. 63.1 FPS at 1024x768 4aa16af on DOOM 3 for an ATI card is a feat.

Asrock is well known for being an "extreme" innovator. They have proved it more than once. And their price is more than competitive. They've done it once more with the release of the 775i68PE which is a i865PE based board which is compatible with Intel's Dual Core processors. Yep, we're talking about that PAT enabled, socket 478 chipset. It does come with improvement in the southbridget though. The board supports Dual DDR400, AGP 8x, five PCI slots and offers 7.1 sound channel. They now have two exotic boards - the 775Dual-880Pro being the other one - supporting Dual core for much less than the 945/955 boards. µ
