Tweaked kernel supports Virtual Machine Interface
Thu Jun 19 2008, 13:11

NOVELL said it is incorporating support for the VMware Virtual Machine Interface (VMI) into the Suse Linux Enterprise kernel.

The firm has apparently been beavering away together with VMwarers to optimise Suse Linux Enterprise for the virtualisation platform.

VMware Virtual Machine Interface (VMI), permits communication between the guest operating system and hypervisor to simplify the task of virtualisation.

The goal is to make Suse Linux Enterprise Server a more efficient guest operating system when running on VMI-compliant hypervisors.

Parag Patel, vice president, Alliances at VMware said, "Performance is an important attribute for customers when virtualising their Linux systems. Working with Novell brings the benefits of virtualisation such as reduced costs, improved operational efficiencies and faster performance, to customers running SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP2."
