"Linux-loving" Shane Robison gets HP Labs role

Don't mention anything with IX in it
Fri Dec 06 2002, 09:03
Linux-loving-shane-robison WE HEAR THAT Shane Robison, the chief technology officer at Compaq, has a new place in the Sun in the post-acquisition Hewlett Packard.

Shane, who hired Alex Stepanov to front the CTO's office at the Old Compaq, and who apparently dislikes any operating system that ends in IX, got the job of executive VP and CTO at HP after the merger.

But now he's got added responsibility for HP Labs, although that will continue to be directed by Dick Lampman, another HP senior VP.

Earlier this year we reported an HP insider as saying: "Shane needs to look at the profit margins, not at perpetuating the Wintel Forever myth. There are lots of old timers at HP who would gladly string him up."
