Google rejects €34 million fine

We were not fined at all
Thu Nov 02 2006, 07:31
EGREGIOUS search outfit Google is denying Dutch press reports that it has been fined €34 million for not moving quickly enough to stop Copiepresse news content appearing on its site.

The reports which seem to have appeared on a Planet Multimedia site, claimed that Google had suffered from a daily fine for not removing links in Google News quick enough.

This figure was reached before Copiepresse agreed to temporarily suspend the daily fine counter. Google apparently was having difficulty determining which domains should be blocked and asked Copiepresse for help.

However, Google insists that it has complied with the Copiepresse judgement and had not been fined at all. A spokesGoogle told news.com the story was completely untrue.
