Yahoo loses big face over gaoled dissidents

Pays families in "humanitarian move"
Tue Nov 13 2007, 20:13

THE WALL STREET Journal said that the families of two anti-Communists thrown in gaol as a result of Yahoo squealing on them got a rack of coins out of the Internet portal.

Last week Yahoo got pasted by the US congress, with one chap in particular, Mr Tom Lantos, describing the firm as being made up of moral pygmies.

Which we'd say is a bit of a slur on pygmies, actually.

Families of the two gaoled dissidents might have some dosh, but the two dissidents are still in gaol.

Jerry Yang, CEO of Yahoo, said in a statement that it had to the right thing by the families.

Let's not cry over spilt milk, Jerry. Get the gaoled guys out of clink. Surely you must have some influence in the People's Republic of China?!? Or maybe even the People's Republic of Berkeley? µ

Tom Lantos

IIRC he's a holocaust survivor, so he may be a bit touchy about persecuting dissidents..

But then again, the holocaust is ancient history now isn't it? The Jews can be villains again? At least in France and Cardiff...

Do you think the move was justified?
