PLANS TO increase online surveillance with have a knock-on affect on people's mental health, according to Australian technology expert and theologian Michael Michael.
Speaking to the Edmonton Sun, Michael said that technology becoming too integrated into everyday life and even potentially embedded in people's bodies.
Michael who coined the term "uberveillance," said the increasing threats to our privacy will also carry consequences for mental health.
He said that people will get more bonkers as they start to realise that their computer is telling the government, or Microsoft all about them.
Apparently if we all think we are being watched all the time then we start wearing tin foil hats and refusing to go out in case we are snapped by a satellite.
We could end up endlessly repeating our first names.
Governments and social services will have to be put on stand-by as mental illness will become an, "increasingly confronting factor" as these issues develop, Micheal Michael muttered.
