AMD wants 40 per cent of server market

NUMBER two maker of computer chips AMD says it wants to have its products in 40 per cent of the world's servers by 2009.

Commercial Business Vice President Marty Seyer told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of an R&D centre in Shanghai that there was no reason that AMD could not do this.

Sayer admitted that the outfit sold "below 20" percent share of the global computer microprocessors market by revenue. It hopes to increase this to a third of the market by 2008.

If it does make its target, it is quite likely it will be as a result of pressing into China. Chipzilla has not been doing very well in China and has seen its sales drop behind the bamboo curtain.
