Netscape breaks IE

Switch it off, says Microsoft
Friday, 27 May 2005, 09:14
THE SOFTWARE GIANT known through-out the world as Microsoft, has warned people that the new version of Netscape will break its Internet Explorer.

Without a shred or even a scintilla of fear about anti-trust litigation, Vole has told its users to switch the new browser off, delete it and preferably stamp on it shouting 'die you evil spawn of Satan', oh and stick to IE. Well it said some of this, anyroad.

Apparently the problem is caused because Netscape 8 installation disables the XML (Extensible Markup Language) rendering capabilities in Internet Explorer. This will kill off some Web pages after Netscape 8 is installed and IE will never see them again.

In his Internet Explorer Weblog, here, Microsoft's Dave Massy said that "If you navigate in IE to an XML file such as an RSS feed ... rather than seeing the data you are presented with a blank page."

A spokesman for AOL told PC World, here, that the problem will only affect the very few that need to visit the advanced technology websites.

The outfit said it will release a fix next week for the program. In the meantime users should not delete their browsers.

Netscape 8 has had a few security problems ever since it was touted as the ‘most secure browser ever'. It shipped with an old Firefox engine inside and had to release a patch within a few hours of it being released. We're all so fortunate that the Vole has no axe to grind and is tending our interests so well. ยต
