2S Opterons end up in HTPC case

HW Roundup 4th of July Edition
Wednesday, 4 July 2007, 16:45
BIT-TECH WAS KNOWN in the past as a place where great case modders met, and with the latest article, the guys have stayed faithful to those origins. Richard Larsson posted a work log for "Beyond the Grave" case. Even if you are not in the modding world, you have to ask yourself why masterpieces like this would not classify modding as a form of art.

When it comes to utilizing the case to the maximum, IT-Review posted a review of Cooler Master Media 280, a HTPC case that can fit monster components inside. Guys wanted to create a music machine, so the case ended up filled with a Tyan Thunder K8WE motherboard and two Opterons, gigabytes of memory and of course, eight-year old, full-size card - Korg Oasys PCI.

Bjorn3D posted a review of both HD2400 and HD2600 from DAAMIT, GPUs with brilliantly low power consumption and not-so-brilliant performance that triggered a hefty price drop. With new prices, how is HD2400/2600 handling the competition? Learn here.

Phoronix wished everybody that lives inside and outside US - US Independence Day, with firing up an editorial about The State of ATI Linux 2007. Overall, Linux community has much to desire, but we wonder what The State of Nvidia is in that operating system segment…?

TweakTown went to visit Shuttle's HQ is Taipei to learn what is happening with the company that has been rumoured a lot as a takeover target. Guys'n'girls moved away from unsuccessful low-cost models and are developing new products.

When it comes to low-end side of the story, RBmods posted a review of Kaser Radeon X1300 256MB PCIe. This world-unfamous brand of cards is being sold through Geeks.com, so if you're interested in value cards, but not interested in DirectX 10, head over there to check it out.

OverClockersClub posted a review Coolink Silenator, a heatpipe cooler for almost all CPUs on today's market.

HardwareLogic decided to join the ranks of ComputerShopper and reviewed a complete system. This time, it is no other than Alienware Area-51 7500 system. Does this system deliver?

Keeping it in high-end segment, BenchZowner posted a review of Asus P5K3 Deluxe motherboard. You can figure out that it spots Lake of Bears chipset and DDR3 memory, which is currently rare as hen's teeth. But, before Nehalem kicks in and offers CSI, Intel-CPU powered motherboards will not see any major performance boost between 800, 1066, 1200 and 1333 MHz memory, so DDR3 still does not make any sense. But next year, with Agena and Nehalem, expect fireworks in memory department.
