Sweden wants ISPs to tackle pirates

SWEDISH INTERNET service providers might soon be told to cut off punters who share large amounts of copyright music and films online.

According to Associated Press, a new proposal presented to the government said that illegal file-sharing was "a significant obstacle" to the development of legal alternatives to download copyrighted material on the Net.

The report penned by Cecilia Renfors, recommends ISPs should be forced to cancel services to customers engaged in large-scale file-sharing.

She did not say how the ISPs were expected to identify file-sharers. Sweden has been toughening its laws against file-sharing in recent years but more than 10 percent of all Swedes still swap music, movies and games on their computers.
