TAIWANESE CHIPSET FIRM, SIS said it was working with big US shop Dell, to build a low-cost PC.

SIS said its SiSM661GX chipset would form the heart of Dell's EC280 which is aimed at first-time PC buyers.

"It's also a perfect implement to create more business opportunity on those emerging countries," said the firms in a statement.

The EC280 is one-eighth the size of a regular ATX chassis. The chipset is paired with an Intel Celeron M 205 FSB400MHz processor and DDR 512/256 memory. SIS said the machine is estimated consume 65Watts per minute.*

The firms said it would be pegged at a reasonable price but didn't say what that would be.

According to the statement, Daniel Chen, CEO and President of SIS, said his firm wanted "to let users who only need basic PC functions can enjoy the convenience brought by modern IT applications."

"We are glad to join this plan," he said, "and hope can make more contribution to global society.” µ

* Na, we can't work that one out either.
