Samsung battery explodes in Vietnam too

Is it unlucky to be called Nguyen?

NO SOONER had the INQ reported that only Nokias suffer from exploding batteries in Vietnam than a reader sent in another report stating that a Samsung C100 handset had decided to join the fray and its battery exploded in Hanoi last Friday.

This time the owner admitted that he had bought the Samsung phone from an unauthorised dealer but, according to the Thanh Nien newspaper, the victim was still surprised by the blast.

The unlucky Samsung owner was named as Nguyen The Dang whereas Nguyen Dinh Ly had his Nokia 8310 explode. Is it unlucky to be called Nguyen, one wonders?

Naturally Samsung says only buy its products from reputable dealers.

Curiously a German magazine, Connect, investigated this problem and found that out of eight batteries aimed at Nokia users two Skywalker branded batteries could be enticed to explode and one Battery Pack branded battery could be persuaded to melt. µ
