OCZ launches SPD-Z

Utility for reprogramming memory SPD chips
Wed Aug 08 2007, 08:45
AFTER SEEING WINDOWS utilities that flash the BIOS on modern motherboard, and some third party programs to flash the graphics card BIOS, OCZ is now bringing the world+dog ease of use when it comes to RAM.

The company has launched utility that allows owners of OCZ memory easy migration to new motherboards, and additional tweaking on current ones.

Under the name SPD-Z, OCZ hides a small application that allows users to change values inside the SPD (Serial Presence Detect) chips. These chips control the latencies of DRAM chips themselves, as our Nova explained earlier this week.

It will be interesting to see just how much computer components can be customised. Motherboards, graphics cards and now RAM have sorted this. We can't wait for CPU micro-code update utilities… ยต
