Self healing computer products out

Physician, heal thyself
Monday, 12 November 2007, 08:14

IBM has released its first range of products which it claims are the first steps towards computers that manage themselves and have self healing functions.

In a press release, IBM said that it had been focused on Autonomic Computing for more than six years, and that this roll-out is just the latest step.

Big Blue has been banging on about Autonomic Computing since 2001 when it published its Autonomic Computing Manifesto. IBM thinks that if you run a network in the same way as the body runs its nervous system you are home and hosed.

Big Blue has released several products under its Autonomic label. these include a Tivoli Security Operations Manager, which is a real-time dashboard for optimising, managing and protecting computer systems. Then there is OPTIMIZETest which automatically QAs IT operations.

There is a Tivoli Usage and Accounting Manager to carry out cost allocation, resource accounting and chargeback billing functions.
