Racksaver claims Opteron price performance crown

And Penguin launches range of servers

Altus-4200-box A SERVER from Racksaver which uses an AMD processor has pipped machines from Dell, HP and IBM to the price/performance post, the firm claimed today.

Racksaver said its RS-2164/OP-R had a cost of $2.06/tpmC, faster than the next comparable machine at $2.25/tpmC.

Meanwhile, Penguin Computing said it has introduced its Altus 4200 server range which supports dual or quad systems using Opteron 800s.

The Altus 4200 will support 32GB of PC2100 memory in a 4U rackmount chassis, includes four hot-swap Ultra 320 SCSI drives, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and an integrated 10/100 Ethernet port, as onl hot swap PCI-X 64-bit/133 and PCI-X/66MHz slots, as well as three 530W power supplies.
