Server market perks up a bit

BIG BLUE has managed to increase its server market share against Dell and HP. According to research released by Gartner, IBM's Unix server and mainframe sales fell, but the sales of its X86 increased by 11 per cent. This increased its overall market share by 0.7 per cent.

High end server sales were flat, but the market got a boost from the lower end of the market which is the playground for Intel and AMD chips sales. This might explain why the likes of Dell are pushing their lower end servers and installing cheaper AMD chips in them.
