ATI Fire GL X1 clock details

Memory slower than on Radeon 9700 Pro

A-very-merry-yuletide-to-all-our-friends-worldwide-from-chipzilla-com WE REPORTED EARLIER that ATI, or its workstation team based in Starnberg, Germany, is about to ship to its R300 based workstation cards called X1.

We spoke with one of ATI workstation managers and we learned few more details about this card.

ATI FireGL X1 and Z1 will be clocked at 324MHz for the core and 276MHz for the memory. The memory clock is actually slower than the one ATI use on Radeon 9700 PRO - 310MHz. ATI claims that these cards will use better memory chips from high end gaming cards but these chips will have higher performance latencies that will compensate lower memory clock compared to high end Radeon versions.

ATI FireGL X1 will use 128MB of memory and should be very similar to Radeon 9700 PRO apart from the slower memory.

And the ATI Fire GL Z1 will use 256MB -- important for heavy data loads that are necessary in this workstation business to have more memory for textures and data.

The Maya plug-in that will enabler you card to render one of the scenes of Lord of the Rings will be delivered by ATI but just the plug-in, not the scene because of copyright.

Still this plug-in will enable you to render through your card but we will hold our breath until we see them, hopefully first thing next year. µ

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
