Iphone loser stung by $1,000 joke

I Am Rich gag backfires
Thu Aug 07 2008, 18:09

WHEN ARMIN HEINRICH posted his I Am Rich application to the Iphone App Store, we're sure he never expected anyone to be stupid enough to actually buy the useless but amusing bling simulator.

And when we read the comments from people on the Apple forums demanding that the app be removed in case anyone accidentally purchased it we, quite understandably, thought that they were being a bit alarmist, and should probably get a sense of humour transplant.

But it had to happen, didn't it?

And what brainless fool would pay that for an iphone? You? That is way past wishful thinking right into delusional. Seek professional help as someone has stolen your frontal lobe.
5 large for a phone, not on this planet, not my anyone sane.

Apple should remove obvious fleece tactics like this.

Does that app come with a happy ending?

DOH!

Personally

I have no sympathy for the buyer at all. If he pressed buy, he bought it. Simple as that.

I'm just waiting for the app author to sue this guy for defamation over that review, I think that would be sweet ;)

Now that he has the application, will he use it to bling his phone?

Then he can show everyone who knows him that it was him who did it.

If he has $999 to throw away on a whim then maybe that answers why his wife married him.

Darwin trumped by Logic & Bible?

This event proves Darwin's theory?

Problem! Intelligence behind Computers
Problem! Intelligence behind Internet
Problem! Intelligence behind Programing!

It's more like a forbidden fruit scenario here.
Hook and bait.

Also the fools falling for this is the ones believing Darwin, or the cons that did this laughing at Darwin's believers. Pssst... there the ones spreading the lies.

Evolution can send one's mind into endless circular patterns and other straightforward brains overtakes them.

Logic are set rules, evolution is erratic.

What an iMoron

Then again, that's redundant, since he bought an iPhone in the first place.

The best part is that these hipster douchebags think they've got some great hippie community deal going with Apple, when in fact even the homebrew developers have to pay them 30% for the honor of developing code on their own.

I guess it's better they spend their money on this crap than on things they could potentially hurt themselves with, like a stick or a bottle of Windex.

iDiot User. iClick is for iDiots

This man is an iDiot, which I will point out, using the 3 strikes law... Had he not been an iDiot, other iDiots would have been able to purchase this status symbol on their iPhones and been able to use it to pick up members of the opposite (or not) sex with...

Strike 1: Not being adamantly opposed to your wife activating any sort of 1-click purchasing feature, knowing she likes toi spend a lot of money that she doesn't have - on your joint Visa card.
Strike 2: Listening to your wife in the first place
Strike 3: Clicking on the "Purchase Now" button with the price tag of $999.99 next to it "just to see what happens"

LMAO - what a schmuck! I hope they reinstate the app, turn off 1-click, and this guy gets a divorce from his wife

One man's bogus is another man's legit. Where does the line get drawn? What if people with waaaaay more money than sense actually wants this?
Do you really like the idea of a nanny state?

I'm with the rest of the populous: he's a plonk, although the 1-click buy system sounds dangerous, is it really literally one click without the need for confirmation?

return policy

i am having trouble feeling for this dude here.

back in where i live though any purchase u make has a 14 days money back warranty, no questions asked, i really don't know if that extends to software purchases OTA.

i don't think the app itself should be taken from the app-store. regard it has a way to compliment the developer with a donation "traded" for a simbolic application.

but not to deny multiple times when asked if you want to take that shot and where you want it, infact asking for it to be in your wallet... sheeeshh

i must have been wandering: "how many confirmation steps there is???"

i confess i do that all the time... ever installed software in your PC not wanting to reboot?

"i am sure there is one more step.... they'l ask me again... i still need to tell them my visa number... and the other one... and my name...

Damnnnn my other me just activated the iClick account!!!!"

Please confirm i'm stupid!

"yes you are!"

Hehe

His only hope is to wait 7 days and dispute the payment with VISA or get apple to refund it, if the former he may find he will not be able to buy from apple ever again though... which would be for the best :)

I'm Not Rich

I have to say, while his situation might be less than favorable in his eyes, it's his own fault.

Calling the "I Am Rich" program a scam is also not in order. Sure it might be overpriced. And sure it might be completely pointless. But it does not misinform potential buyers of what its purpose or function is.

If he can work with Visa and Apple and get his money back more power to him. If not, I hope he backs up this application on his computer because to lose it would be an even greater waste of money.

Accident?

Accident? Increasingly we use that word when we are refusing to accept responsibility for our own foolish decisions. The page was well marked and accurate, he considered his options, and made a foolish choice. Now he wants to evade responsibility for this stupidity by calling it an accident. It may have been an unintended outcome, but it was NO accident. Can't we stop buying into all the silly euphemisms people are using to avoid responsibility for their own stupidity?

I Truly Hope He Gets His Money Back

I feel sorry for the guy and really do hope he is able to get his money back. Maybe he should make his wife pay for it (or at least pay half), since she's the one who activated the 1-click mechanism on his laptop.

But anytime you're going to be stupid enough to click on a Purchase Now button just to see what happens, then at the very least you should make sure your payment preferences have been changed and set to a bogus credit card account and not a real account.

But I agree that it should be illegal for anyone to do this and post such a bogus application in the App store in the first place. It's very obvious this was not just an innocent prank but a cleverly disguised "scam" specifically designed to catch the unsuspecting.

Good Luck!

iclick?

I'm not sure what this "iclick" is, but it sounds to me like it's some deal where your credit card number and personal details have been previously entered and all you do is click "Buy" and the order is put through with no verification. If this is the case, then I'm glad this idiot may lose his money. He doesn't deserve it anyway. What a dumb "feature" - again, if I am correct in what it is.

Whether I'm right or wrong though, he doesn't deserve his money for the reasons stated by everyone else.

posted by : Ted, 08 August 2008 Complain about this comment
If I'm correct, this is what happened:

1. Fellow clicks 'Buy', not realising he would buy the app.
2. Thinks ooops, I didn't want to actually buy the app, despite hitting 'Buy'.
3. Asks Apple to police his stupidity.
4. Realising his own stupidity, he claims that the app must be a scam as no-one could be stupid enough to buy it.

I don't believe that the app author, Apple, the Inq or even the buyer are at fault. No, I blame Visa for giving someone this dim-witted and uttlerly dense access to money. If I was him, I'd sue. Visa. And Mastercard, just to make sure it can't happen to anyone else.

Do the math...

Just to see what happens?
Well here's how it works:
-$999.99 in your account
+$299.99 in Apple's Account
+$700.00 in Armin's Account

You do the math. Dumb ass.

Duh

Well he can always tell Apple he mistakenly hit the buy button, they'll refund his money or credit his account. Thing is, from what I understand, the developer is responsible for Apple's 30% share.

Fell out of my chair laughing at this iFool. (An iFool and his iMoney are soon iParted?) Would serve him right if he ends up having to pay the $1,000 less $0.01. Just goes to show the level of "customers" that Jobs and his criminal organization are targetting.

Hmmmm... are we really sure they are in Cupertino and not Russia? Lots of computer-based crime coming out of both places these days.

I've always said...

I've always said I love seeing people with iPlods and now imPwnds. Because when you see someone with one of these you automatically know exactly how to deal with them.

You know you are dealing with someone with a below average IQ, who is self-important, and a follower. Knowing this, you are in much better position to argue your point or influence the person. (There are always exceptions, but hey we're talking about the average... or below in this case.)

I wonder what he expected? Look a pop up window that says "no really, are you this stupid?"

To quote that comedian "Here's you sign" great news, it comes in white, you can touch it and it shows greasy finger prints!

Let's see...
Price clearly listed,
What it does is clearly described....

As long as the app does what it says.
It's a valid sale of a legitimate (if seemingly overpriced) item...

Guy best hope Apple has a return policy... Ooops what am I thinking...
