The INQUIRER? That's my home page... - Intel field sales engineer
DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE Barak Obama seems to have changed his mind about his technology-friendly election platform.
Changes to his website indicate that Obama's net neutrality and internet control plans have been watered down.
It now appears that the changes to the Science, Technology & Innovation position now reflect the position of both the Senator and his running-mate Joe Biden. Biden is a sock-puppet for the entertainment industry and has a history of proposing laws that favour security forces' demands for snooping.
So, gone from the policy is the importance of net neutrality. Detail has been removed and replaced with fairly vague promises.
While the page still states “Barack Obama strongly supports the principle of network neutrality to preserve the benefits of open competition on the Internet,” the site has deleted the following detailed section:
"Users must be free to access content, to use applications, and to attach personal devices. They have a right to receive accurate and honest information about service plans. But these guarantees are not enough to prevent network providers from discriminating in ways that limit the freedom of expression on the Internet. Because most Americans only have a choice of only one or two broadband carriers, carriers are tempted to impose a toll charge on content and services, discriminating against websites that are unwilling to pay for equal treatment. This could create a two-tier Internet in which websites with the best relationships with network providers can get the fastest access to consumers, while all competing websites remain in a slower lane. Such a result would threaten innovation, the open tradition and architecture of the Internet, and competition among content and backbone providers. It would also threaten the equality of speech through which the Internet has begun to transform American political and cultural discourse. Barack Obama supports the basic principle that network providers should not be allowed to charge fees to privilege the content or applications of some web sites and Internet applications over others. This principle will ensure that the new competitors, especially small or non-profit speakers, have the same opportunity as incumbents to innovate on the Internet and to reach large audiences. Obama will protect the Internet’s traditional openness to innovation and creativity and ensure that it remains a platform for free speech and innovation that will benefit consumers and our democracy."
Also deleted is a pledge to encourage the creation of Public Media 2.0, the next generation of public media that will create the "Sesame Street of the Digital Age" and other video and interactive programming that educates and informs.
All that remains is a promise to give parents the tools needed to censor the internet for their children. Gone is the ban on showing of adult-oriented commercial advertising during children’s programming and giving parents internet control software.
A pledge to "hold government and business accountable for violations of personal privacy" is still there but there is now little information on how it will happen. So it probably won't. µ
You have a small button common typo above.

It's Joe "McCarthy" Biden

Thanks!
Well they've edited the website down a bit, but the full pledge is still there, if you can be bothered enough to click the "Read Obama's Technology and Innovation Plan" link at the end.

A promise given is still a promise after you remove it from your Web site or you de-emphasise it. Of course that doesn't mean it'll be kept. A few weeks ago [The West Wing] season five repeats got to the episode where Josh Lyman is confronted with the fact that he and President Bartlett promised to protect U.S. jobs but the latest world trade deal is leading to 10,000 programming posts going to India. As far as I followed it, it's then put to him that in politics what's immoral isn't breaking promises, but making them in the first place. And this somehow means he doesn't have to resign or anything. I don't think I agree, though.
If Obama gets in I can guarantee he will start taxing the net to include the possibility of taxing each email you send. They have already toyed with that idea! I can also guarantee he will flip flop and side with Hollywood on DRM and socialistic ideals.

I was very unhappy to learn of the change on the Internet issues on Obama's website. The 2nd commenter above is correct; the full plan, including a strong net neutrality position, is still available on the website. BUT, you must scroll ALL the way to the very bottom of the Technology issues page and click on the hyperlink to see it.

I'm glad to see the policy is still there, but I do wish they hadn't relegated it to a position "below the fold", and thereby given a less important physical location. Catering to DRM Biden? Catering to short attention span readers? Maybe both?
If it's because Zimmerman had a run in with Biden a while ago over PGP, I think you should know that Zimmerman backs the Obama/Biden campaign. (You may well have reported this.)

There is no "backtrack", this is FUD.
I was hoping that Obama is real man for president. But ...

Obama broke promises one by one, to hide his real plan. Plan is simple: Who gona pay more for my decisions as president.

Sadly, now I do not have president candidat for me :(
The only thing that mattered was an H. W. Supreme Court Stamp.
This is how rumors get started. Maybe the author of this article should learn how to use the internet. The policy is there and now it is even in printable format:

Here's where to find what you claim is gone:

If you want all your readers to vote for someone who DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO USE A COMPUTER OR SEND EMAIL THEN COME OUT AND SAY. Otherwise, you need to print a retraction on your article because you are flat out LYING!
If anyone believes that Obama is any different than any of the other puppets dancing the Washington waltz they should give their heads a shake,he is about power plain and simple different nitch same group. He will bow to the power of the people he owes and cave to the record and movie industry, only in America
