Hitachi shows off walking, talking robot

Don't tell Sir Cliff
Wednesday, 21 November 2007, 15:42

JAPANESE FIRM Hitachi says it built a walking, talking robot.

EMIEW 2 has a pair of fold-up legs as well as wheels and will apparently jabber away like R2D2 if you ask it a question.

The thing is nearly three feet tall and Hitachi says it could easily get a job as a receptionist or security. Or a journalist on Daily Tech.

According to the IHT, however, the device went and bit bonkers on its first public outing when it careered into a desk, fell on its back a wiggled about forlornly like a dying ladybird.

In that state it couldn't act on commands sent to it through the controlling laptop.
