Digg is getting bigg

A bigger hole
Thursday, 25 September 2008, 07:18

POPULAR NEWS SHARING website Digg has announced major expansion plans.

The move involves hiring more staff, rolling out new products and launching services in languages besides English.

Digg is supposedly being coveted by Internet bigwigs such as Microsoft and Google. The expansion is on the back of a $28.7 million investment from venture capitalists.

Although we take the Nintendo, the outfit has not done that badly considering it was only launched four years ago. The extra cash will mean that staff will double over the next year to more than 150 employees and move to a larger corporate headquarters in San Francisco by December 2009.

For those who came in late, Digg relies on 'Diggers' to submit stories to the site and the items are ranked by popularity or interest.

It has been accused of being fixed a bit by editors, although the company has always denied this. µ
