Toshiba recalls 340,000 notebook batteries

Sony fingered again
Tuesday, 19 September 2006, 09:57
TOSHIBA SAID that it is recalling 340,000 battery packs for Satellite and Dynabook notebooks made between March and May.

Sony made the batteries but the problem doesn't cause them to explode, according to an Associated Press article cited in the Wall Street Journal .

Instead the batteries just stop charging or discharge too fast.

How do you know if you've got an affected product? There appears to be no notification on the Toshiba web site as yet. AP says 100,000 units are in the States, there are 45,000 in Japan and the others are in other countries. ยต
