THE HACKINTOSH CROWD has gone one step beyond by running Apple's leopard 10.5.2, albeit in a heavily hacked version named Kalyway 10.5.2, on an MSI Wind netbook.
Now the hackery-pokery in itself isn't really news, in fact cheeky Mac cloner Psystar has been selling its very own Hackintoshes right under the noses of Cupertino's legal rottweillers for months now.
What is news is that this is the first time the OS has been seen running in any significantly useable way an an Atom-based sub-notebook. And an Atom-based sub-notebook that isn't due to hit the market for another week at that. With a release date of July 7th, the set-up, which was first revealed over at Insanely Mac, should have the folks at MSI frothing at the mouth.
The Spanish forum poster who managed to cram the OS into the mini lappie reckons pretty much everything works other than some minor problems with the screen resolution and the wifi connection.
Apple has already announced that the next iteration of its OS, Snow Leopard, will be much smaller and more efficient at the cost of the usual raft of extra features, and the next few months will see every computer outlet in the world up to its neck in teeny weeny thigh warmers.
Sounds like a match made in heaven to us. ยต
If I were making Wind,
I'd be pleased as punch, if the end-customers were voiding the warranty on the thing, & installing OS X:

I'd have no liability for OS problems for those machines, from then on,

The machines would be selling,

I'd not be in the OS business, so it simply wouldn't compete against MY product...

Where's the problem?

I think the only one "frothing at the mouth" is a certain capuccino-junkie writer, hm?
Installing a different OS on a laptop can void your warranty? There goes ever installing Linux in wear of not being able to get my RAM repaired. I knew Linux was evil.
