Chartered Semi to buy a Hitachi wafer plant

SILICON WAFER manufacturer Chartered Semiconductor announced today that it's going to buy another wafer plant.

The company said it will pay out $233 million to buy Hitachi Semiconductor Singapore Pte. Ltd. and its Singapore silicon wafer factory from Hitachi Ltd. and Hitachi Asia Ltd.

The deal reportedly includes the purchase of an existing wafer manufacturing agreement with Renesas Technology that's worth $250 million to $300 million.

Chartered Semi's major customers include AMD and Broadcom. ยต
