Capcom steams to new distribution model

Valve snares another legendary publisher
Wed Jun 13 2007, 12:47
JUDGING BY RECENT signings, Valve is on a roll. Doug Lombardi and Gabe Newell's brainchild, the Steam distribution model is gaining more and more publishers that will file their content through steampowered.com.

The latest company to get steamed up is none other than Capcom, legendary Japanese publisher whose titles have kept yours truly through many sleepless nights, from Nintendo's Entertainment System onwards.

Capcom will use Steam not to distribute some old games and perhaps one or two newer ones, the firm's digital offering is strong as it can be. PC versions of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Onimusha 3, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and many other future titles will come to the network.

So, Steam is set to add it its current 13 million users, making this one ultimate digital content distribution package. And, yes, ease of use and brilliant backup feature will continue to be integral part of the Steam package. µ
