Ocean Blue telly chip covers all bases

HD, digital and analogue on a single chip
Wednesday, 8 October 2008, 09:06

OCEAN BLUE CEO Ken Helps claims that Sunrise is the first TV software to incorporate power-saving functions with HD video, USB support and digital and analogue tuner formats, which can all operate on a single internal chipset, as opposed to the multiple chips currently in use.

He said that combining multiple broadcast types and functions on a single chip will cut development time and reduce software and hardware costs for the next breed of HD TVs.

He said that HD will be the new black in 2009 and the single chipset solution for televisions will be the panacea to a lot of the broadcasting industry's woes.

With the paint still drying on standards such as DVB-T2, Ocean Blue is working closely with the semi-conductor industry to produce the hardware and software that will power the new generation of televisions, which will also be more energy efficient, he said.

Under Sunrise, tuning for both analogue and digital channels is managed through the same user interface, and can control multiple broadcast signals. It will also enable an easy dual set-up process for Integrated Digital TVs via one single user interface.

Helps said that the new generation of chipsets for televisions will also have functions allowing TV to be switched into an energy saving mode, rather than just standby mode..

The multi-purpose software is based on Ocean Blue’s Sunrise DVB core software product, with variations including DVB-T (terrestrial), DVB-S (satellite), and DVB-H (handheld). µ
