When Google held a Summer of Code project alongside Gnome, it totally failed to interest any women developers.
Now the Gnomes want to sponsor three projects but for women only. "We think it's time to do something to encourage more women to join our development community," the press release says.
The organisation is going to sponsor three female students to hack on Gnome projects from the comfort of their own home. Each project will last two months, and each participant will get $3,000.
Participants can come up with their own ideas about how to improve Gnome or choose from a list of potential projects.
Applications from those women who are happy about handing over their names and addresses and phone numbers to Open Saucers are being accepted immediately. Applications will close on July 1st. µ
