TOSHIBA finalised its Q2 offerings at the spring product preview show in Ware, Hertfordshire with the A and K Gigashot High-Def HDD based camcorders and new Camileo Pro HD video camera.
The Gigashot range is the first attempt by Toshiba at the High Definition camcorder market. These build on the success of their Camileo products and now are accompanied by an in-build HDD up to 100GB and capable of 1920x1080i capture.
Both the new product lines have a 3-inch TFT LCD display and include SD/SDHC slot supporting 8GB cards, with a HDMI port and mini-USB for all your connecting pleasures.
The Gigashot A series comes in at just 78.1mm x 135.4mm x 79mm and weighs a meagre 495 grams.
It captures interlaced MPEG-4/H.264 video at 1080i High Definition resolution at 1920x1080/1400x1080 pixels, using the Fujinon 10x optical 80x digital zoom lens with a single 1/3 inch CMOS image sensor. Two models are available, the Gigashot A40F, which uses a 40GB hard disc, and the Gigashot A100F, running it at 100GB of onboard storage.
Tosh states it provides the capacity to store over 12 hours of full high definition footage, or up to 23 hours of standard definition footage. The A40F and A100F will put you back £679 and £849 respectively.
The Gigashot K series delivers the same features only at a resolution of 1280x720 pixels with just a 30x digital zoom lens. The models available are the Gigashot K80H, 80GB HDD based and the Gigashot K40H with 40GB. With the prices you’re expected to pay for these wonders being £449 and £499, respectively.

Pro HD
Besides all that and to top off the seven-in-one features list are the
following; digital voice recorder, mass storage device, motion detector (via a
pc), MP3 player and a webcam. The expected price to shell out for this is a
paltry £149.99. µ
"It offers 3x optical zoom and 4x digital enabling it to produce images to the equivalent of 11 megapixels."

Come on. This is like saying my 4Mp Kodak DX6490 camera is cabable of producing 160 megapixel shots because its got a 10x zoom + 4x digital. You really should have cut that piece of marketing fluffery from the report. No-one who knows even the slightest amount about digital cameras should be taken in by that.
