Now AT&T suffers from the plague of exploding batteries

Moves to replace some 17,000
Thu Jan 17 2008, 09:41

AFTER BATTERIES it supplied caused two fires and two explosions in just over a year, AT&T has decided to replace some 17,000 of the dodgy blighters.

The batteries are used to back up power supplies for its U-verse television network. Luckily they sit in boxes in the street, not in homes so no-one has been injured, or killed, or had their house burnt down - yet.

A spokesbloke for the company said the batteries came from a company called Avestor, which went bust in October 2006. Coincidentally, this is when AT&T discovered its batteries were exploding.

Since Avestor had gone bust AT&T would replace the batteries with a different sort, the spokesman said.

A pic on this page shows how dodgy a dodgy battey can be. µ
