Nvidia unfurls P4 fun

Under wraps
Tuesday, 4 September 2001, 09:56
OUR VISIT TO THE<> ECTS show not far from our glorious "millennium dome" yesterday was not entirely without result.

We got a clutch of snaps of the action, watched everyone go crazy over Xbox demonstrations and the like, and even managed to get a decent cup of coffee and an egg sandwich in the press office.

The Nvidia stand, very much lower profile than the mammoth ATI stand further up the way, was inhabited by a clutch of Intel look-alikes, all dressed in their characteristic Nvida shirts and Nvidia chinos.

In conversations we had subsequently with some folk, it emerged that as we surmised, Nvidia and Intel are closer than a Carly-Capellas duo, and our understanding is that Nforce on the P4 isn't too far away.

The plan goes something like the following. Nforce gets released on boards, ALi and SiS help to propagate the Pentium 4 as a PC, Intel finally announces the availability of the i845 SDRAM chipset and then the i845 DDR chipset.

Then Intel announces the Nforce and its owners, Nvidia, are suitable candidates for the Pentium 4 too, and everyone is happy.

Everyone, except possibly ATI, we'd guess... ยต

* WE'LL POST THE RESULTS of our snapperazzi endeavours just as soon as we've rebooted our digital camera.
