Gigabyte claims world first with 3.5G GPS/AGPS phone

FOLLOWING UP ON its GPS enabled range of wireless PDAs and smartphone, Taiwan's Gigabyte Communications is plotting to show the world’s first 3.5G GPS/AGPS wireless data card at CeBIT, Germany.

Sold under the Gsmart label, the MD800 3-in-1 data card offers a choice of three interfaces, Express card, mini USB, and PCMCIA.

Naturally it comes with the requisite adapters. Plus, in addition to its 3.5G data capability, it also offers support for GPS and A-GPS (Assisted GPS).

The MD800 card is a natural successor to the Gsmart MS820 GPS PDA phone which features an exclusive motion-sensing sensor and the company's own GUI (graphical user interface).

The company has previously won plaudits for its T600 TV phone. "Following the success of the award-winning digital TV PDA phone, the Gsmart T600, we are leading the industry in delivering mobile TV," claimed Dr Stanley Jenq, Gigabyte Comm's CEO.

At CeBIT, the company will be introducing the MS808 PDA phone which is claimed to be the world’s first 3.5G mobile phone supporting four different mobile TV standards, DVB-T, DVB-H, T-DMB, and ISDB-T.
