AMD likes Wii

No consoling Intel
Tue Nov 21 2006, 16:40
AMD OFFERED congratulations to Nintendo on what it calls the "revolutionary Wii video gaming console".

The chip maker reckons its "Hollywood" graphics processor helped Nintendo deliver the fun bit of kit to thumb-twiddling yanks.

Some bloke called Dave Orton, who is, apparently, AMD's executive vice president, Visual and Media Business reckons the launch of the Wii "is a great achievement for Nintendo and a win for gamers everywhere."

"Having powered the graphics in the Nintendo GameCube, AMD is delighted to strengthen its relationship with Nintendo as it drives the next revolution in video games with the Wii," he noted.

"What with us powering Wii's pictures and IBM doing the Playstation thang, Intel will be left holding on to its trouser bulge when everyone dumps the PC and goes consoling instead," he didn't say, though he may have liked to. µ
