Dell channel strategy creeps out

Guitar Center and AMD along for the ride

DELL AND GUITAR CENTER have inked a deal to sell gray boxes beside the white ones that they now sell. This has two interesting implications, one for Dell, the other for AMD.

Google sales team, give GC a call, ASAP

The Dell side is worth watching because it looks like this is the first shot across the bow for their channel strategy. It may be the first of many such single chain/vertical deals, or it could be a simple test. Either way, it is worth watching what they do, and how it ends up.

On the AMD side, it is interesting because from all appearances, the boxes are only AMD based. I don't think this is going to result in a huge sales boost for AMD, but it is incremental, Guitar Center has more than 200 big box stores and a pretty big web presence. It won't hurt.

In any case, keep an eye on this one, it could be big or it could fizzle. In either case, it will point the way for Dell. You can read the full release here. µ
