Source code, XP drivers for EEE PC appear

As if by magic
Monday, 5 November 2007, 12:21

AN INQUIRING READER was browsing details of Asus' wee EEE PC noting that he thought $400 not such a bad price, considering all the features.

Looking through Asus' support web site for the EEE PC’s manual, he came across XP drivers for the little notebook

If you click on "other", you can to download the entire source code for the EEE, some 1.8GB of it.

"Quite spiffy!" notes Nico. Thanks Nico. µ

Excuse my ignorance, but does this also mean that the source code for the hardware drivers is made available to the Linux community.

If so then this is truly great and i await a multitude of nimble little distro's for the Eee and its ilk. Eeebuntu anyone?

If not, then my excitement wanes somewhat. But still big props to Asus for what they have achieved, the Eee looks very nice indeed.

I await to see what next year brings from Intel and friends.

(Wii and now Eee, its like weird single syllable naming one-upmanship)
