Sun to hire more foreign staff

SUN MICROSYSTEMS Sun plans to expand in the East to save cash on expensive US staff.

According to MarketWatch, Sun's senior vice president of global engineering, Stephen Pelletier, told a group of reporters that the company would double its software engineers in Bangalore to 2,000 over the next two years.

Other places that Sun will be hiring include Beijing, Prague and St. Petersburg.

Sun says it will not cut jobs in the US, but said that hiring in America wouldn't be a priority.

Pelletier said that Sun had invested too heavily the United States, which was far too expensive, and the outfit needed to put more cash into lower-cost regions such as India.
