Record companies sue Project Playlist
PROJECT PLAYLIST, an outfit which enables users to easily search, play and share music with others for free, has been sued by nine major record labels for "massive infringement" of copyright.
The site, which can be found here, compiles an index of songs on the World Wide Wibble and allows users to " quickly and easily search the index for recordings by favourite artists".
When the user finds something he likes, Project Playlist will download the torrent and stream it to the user who can listen to it on his or her computer or mobile device.
What seems to have put the willies up the music industry is that Project Playlist has been optimising its site for use on Iphones and Ipods and providing technology to embed personalised playlists on social notworking sites.
According to the paperwork submitted to the court, projectplaylist.com gets more than 600,000 daily users and that means a 'massive infringement' of the record companies' property.
Included in the action are Atlantic, Elektra, Warner, Capitol, Priority, Virgin America, Interscope, Motown, UMG and Vivendi. ยต

Who exactly wakes up in the morning and thinks creating one of these kind of sites is a good idea? Surely they know the RIAA will be kicking the door in before they've even had time to finish breakfast!

Or maybe it's part of a bigger plan... Distract the RIAA with a daft idea like this, and whilst they're searching the marmalade for mp3's, sneak into their office and check the contents of their Ipods.
Can someone please give us a morale boost and just tell the music industry to F*%K Off? I'll donate a dollar to the guys legal defense fund.

It wouldn't help much, but it might make us feel a bit better.

It worked for our PM in Canada... well that and making faces behind the Queen's back.
The RIAA really is stupid cause the guys at project playlist don't upload any of the music themselves or host anything so they technically aren't at fault. Also they have links to legally purchase the music you find when available as well as other ways to support the artists and will remove songs from the search system if they find they are illegally uploaded. 

The RIAA's real problem with the site is it gives people a chance to listen to the songs in their entirety before deciding if they want to buy them so they can't pawn bad music off on the unknowing public as easily.
