Nokia denies rumours of 770 shortage

We're increasing production OK?
Saturday, 12 November 2005, 14:01
IT SEEMS that some US based Linux fans just can't wait to get their hands on Nokia's 770 Internet tablet. An Internet site dedicated to the device www.internettablettalk.com is already drumming up rumours of a shortage.

The INQ spoke to Nokia (UK) who told us, "The Nokia 770 tablet started shipping on November 7th, but this means that this is the date it leaves the factory in Finland - it isn't the date from which it's available in the shops."

"There are 1,000s of orders for this in the UK as you would expect - as when any handset starts shipping. Nokia is currently increasing production to meet these needs."

Nokia UK wouldn't comment on other countries (ie the USA) but you can always go onto the Nokia web site www.nokiausa.com if you want to order one.

The fact that Nokia didn't even promise the product would appear Stateside until November 14th, hasn't stopped fans from phoning up and placing orders already.

The INQ positively refuses to believe, however, the rumour that Nokia USA's initial allocation was a mere 15 units.

It seems that a love of Linux and impatience go hand in hand. µ
