Gadgets sold by vending machine
IF YOU ARE EVER CAUGHT SHORT at an airport without an Ipod or some similar electronic gadget, it is now possible to grab a new one from a vending machine.
Zoom Systems, which supplies vending machines at airports, including Dallas Fort Worth International, will supply Best Buy-supplied gear, from a similar machine to one that distributes chocolate.
The machines sit inside the security checkpoints and if you swipe your credit card you can get an Ipod, headphones or anything else fairly small.
The big idea is that you can buy the gear to take on a trip or as a last-minute present if you forgot to get your spoilt child something during your travels.
You can't get a 42-inch television, of course, and if someone sees you pounding on the vending machine because it has not delivered your Ipod, you could be shot by nervous security guards. ยต

There have been gadget vending machines in, for example, the Las Vegas Hilton (and at least one airport) for at least a couple of years. As regular attendee's of Vegas's Consumer Electronics Show each year, I'm a bit surprised you didn't notice!
So I can buy another iPod when customs decide to confiscate mine on a whim! So nice of them to think of us frequent travelers...
That's no big deal. I was walking through the Macy's at Colonie Center (Colonie, NY, near Albany), and saw what appeared to be an Apple vending machine, with iPods and other Apple gear for sale.
Nothing new at all.. The other day i saw one of these at the local Macy's selling the same things as in the article.
@Jon: I think the news here is something like this actually in use OUTSIDE of Las Vegas, L.A., or New York.

"Big Ticket" vending machines have been talked about for years, but rarely do you see them in actual use beyond the trade-show circuit. It's an interesting experiment at best.
Yah seriously, they've had an iPod vending machine at my local Macy's for AGES... Wouldn't ever get one there though, as I have a nice little corporate discount (6-7% iirc for iPods) from Apple...

Now a vending machine for mininotes, _that_ would be interesting..
That sounds great, although, without any music, what's the point?
