And the CEOs apparently listened.
According to Associated Press, Gates told a knees-up for suits at the annual CEO Summit that no-one got paid for doing a search, they got their cash for designing a new product and having a satisfied customers.
However, Gates said that the amount of search information employees had to find was 'overwhelming' and threatened to drain productivity. Gates, of course offered CEO's new hope in the far distant future in terms of Microsoft Office 12, which will hit the shops in the second half of next year.
But he wouldn't say what was going to be in the new Office that would make life better, but said it would to make life easier for people to stay on task, collaborate on projects and quantify whether they were hitting their targets.
One of the big ideas that Vole is playing around with, appears to be virtual "workspaces" that let people update documents and keep track of emails they send each other about a project.
Microsoft is also releasing Office Communicator next month, which bundles email, instant message and other services. Getting away from businessland, Gates bragged that Vole's Xbox 360, which will get to the shops later this year will support high-definition graphics that are as much as 40 times better than those now sold.
However, when he tried to show CEOs a peek at some games that are being developed, the video feed to a room full of hacks dropped and was replaced with a message on the screen said the material couldn't be shown because the Volish clips contained proprietary information.
Must have drowned in the flood of IT information. µ
