WE MANAGED to prove that you can run two X1600 XT cards in Crossfire. You don't need the master card for it - you just need two X1600 based cards. We plugged them in an Asus A8R-MVP motherboard and the card instantly worked.

You need to use Catalyst 5.13, as the older drivers won't recognise the cards. We had a non WHQLd 5.13 driver but it worked just fine. We paired ATI reference X1600XT sample with Club3D X1600XT retail sample running at 590 MHz core and 1380 MHz memory.

We tried to run X1300 PRO cards before and you can read about it here. A single X1600XT card will score 5093 in 3Dmark05 while the two cards will score respectable 8730 marks. One X1800XL card will score 8700 and ironically two X1600XT cards in Crossfire are faster than the flagship card, for a inch but still faster. We don't think that this will affect the scores in all games but it can clearly give you the picture of the crossfire potential.

Two X1600XT will cost €360 at current prices. ยต
